AHU Mounted Units
UVGI installation in AHUs has several advantages as compared to In-duct UVGI. Several benefits in terms of effectiveness and ease of installation and maintenance are listed below :
- Dual benefits: Coil, Drain-pan sterilization as well as Air Purification.
- Eliminates the need for coil maintenance from the wet side of the coil.
- Cleaner cooling coils means better heat transfer and consequent energy saving.
- Adequate contact time for air and UV Light due lower air velocity than ducts
- Easier UV system maintenance/ lamp changeout as compare to ducts.
When AHU is decided to be the place for UVC installation, a choice needs to be made as to where in the AHU will the UVC be installed.
Typical options are either before or after the cooling coil. Installation after the cooling coil has several distinct advantages as well as challenges associated with it as the air is cold and damp after the cooling coil.
InviroTech Spectra UVGI Systems are built with superior design features that include double glass construction of UVC Lamps with following benefits.
- Double glass construction keeps the UVC performance high even with low temperature air moving over the lamps.
- IP68 Construcion of lamps provides unmatched electrical safety due to complete isolation of live parts from moist air.
The Spectra Range has various models for UVGI installations inside the AHU.
ALM Installation inside an AHU
360 LM Installation inside an AHU
// 360 LM Series
360 Ladder Mount
InviroTech Spectra 360 Ladder Mount is designed to deliver a longer contact time with the airstream for greater germ elimination. In contrast to other Spectra Series for AHUs, the 360LM Series comes without a reflector at the back of the lamp.
360LM selections are generally provided with a URV rating per AHU to indicate the air disinfection performance of the installed system. Ensuring the sizing and airflow of the AHU is critical as these two constants will have a significant effect on the selection of the 360LM series.

Advance Ladder Mount
In the ALM installation, the UV Lamps are mounted horizontally, parallel to and facing the cooling coil, to form a ladder between the fan and the cooling coil. Depending on the AHU width, one or more lamp sets can be installed in one row. For taller AHUs, the FEM (Fully Enclosed Mount) Lamps are installed in multiple rows so that the cooling coil is provided full coverage and adequate intensity of UV irradiation can be ensured.
The default ALM Selection comes with HODS lamps (High Output Double Skin) lamps which ensure higher wattage and greater low-temperature performance than the traditional lamps.
During selection of ALM, it is suggested to ensure the cooling coil and drain pan has adequate and evenly distributed UVC intensity. The factors that need to be considered is the quantity of lamp rows and columns, and the distance to the coil. Our ALM selections will come with the minimum and maximum intensities on the cooling coil.

// BLM Series
Basic Ladder Mount
The Basic Ladder Mount (BLM) Series is the economy version of the Spectra ALM Series. The SOSS Lamps are mounted on the Parabolic Base Mounting (PBM), which is made of anodized aluminum, which protects the lamp from breakage.
Similar to the selection of ALM, for the BLM selection it is suggested to ensure the cooling coil and drain pan has adequate and evenly distributed UVC intensity. The factors that need to be considered is the quantity of lamp rows and columns, and the distance to the coil. Our BLM selections will come with the minimum and maximum intensities on the cooling coil.
